The Pink Winged Stick Insect (Sipyloidea sipylus) is a slender, nocturnal phasmid native to Madagascar that has spread globally. Famous for its light brown, twig-like body and large, vibrant transparent pink wings, it is highly popular among insect hobbyists due to its incredibly easy care requirements.Care and DietThese herbivores thrive at room temperatures between 20°C and 25°C (68°F–77°F) with moderate humidity (60% to 70%). They require a well-ventilated, tall enclosure so they have plenty of room to hang upside down to shed their skin. They feed on a variety of fresh, pesticide-free leaves, including bramble (blackberry), oak, hazel, hawthorn, and ivy.ReproductionThis species is parthenogenetic, meaning females can lay eggs without mating. The eggs are dropped onto the substrate and will hatch in about 3–5 months, resulting in offspring that are exact genetic clones of the mother.Behavior and DefenseTo hide from predators, they perform repetitive side-to-side, swaying movements to mimic twigs blowing in the wind. If threatened, they may flash their bright pink wings to startle predators or exhibit a "threat pose". When attacked, they can also drop a limb to escape, which they will regenerate in subsequent moults
